Software Engineer Job Description

The software engineer performs all typical application development including requirements gathering, solution design, programming and unit testing, capacity and performance testing, and preparation for deployment to test and production environments.  Assignments will typically range from major projects to minor enhancements, with occasional maintenance programming for defect fixes.  This position will work some projects individually, others as the member of a team and still others directing team members.

This position requires advanced skills and experience in these areas: Java (3 – 5 years), Unix (3+ years), general SQL (2+ years) with experience in Informix, and Oracle databases preferred.

Expertise in these areas is a plus: Informix 4gl, Perl, Unix shell scripting, Google Web Toolkit or similar user interface development applications, Coherence or a similar caching package, portal applications, rules engine type applications, Contivo or a similar mapping transform application, Sitescope or similar application monitoring systems.

Experience in capacity planning and performance tuning for applications and application infrastructure is a plus, particularly for high volume, sub-second response transactional type systems.  Experience with batch-oriented system processing colossal files is also a plus.
