The Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown offers 168 beds for nursing home care. Two levels of care are offered: standard care for veterans in need of any intermediate level of care, and memory care for veterans with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. The home staff is a full-time Physician and Certified Nurse Practitioner.

The home opened in 2003 and is located in the scenic countryside of Brown County, offering a tranquil setting where veterans can feel at home. We are looking for caring and passionate Licensed Practical Nurses to join our team and help us achieve our mission of “Serving Those Who Served.” Nurse’s Salary is $22.32 an hour.

Qualifications

License to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing according to Section 4723 Ohio Revised Code & proof of completion of an approved course in medication administration.

Note: Licensed Practical Nurses who administer dialysis treatment must possess Certification in IV Therapy according to Section 4723.17 Ohio Revised Code.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Administering nursing care within the scope of practice as outlined in Division (F) of Section 4723.01 of Ohio
  • Revised Code under the direction of registered nurse &/or licensed physician (e.g., ensures proper execution of physician orders; assists a physician with physical exams, and treatments & collects specimens for laboratory tests; assists in emergencies; administers medication including controlled substances such as narcotics, tranquilizers & non-controlled medication in oral, rectal, topical or injectable form; provides medication instructions to residents
  • Maintains medication accountability records (e.g., charts residents records; prepares & counts medications)
  • Observes, reports & documents residents’ condition in a clinical software system (e.g., response to treatment, medication reactions, patient behavior & progress)
  • Prepares &/or maintains related reports (e.g., progress notes, care plans, monthly summaries)
  • Provides general nursing, direct care &/or programming assistance (e.g., assists with activities of daily living; takes vital signs; feeds residents; assists with grooming, ambulation, range of motion, bowel & bladder training & isolation techniques; independently or with assistance turns, repositions, transfers, lifts, applies releases & restraints & ambulates residents; escorts residents to medical appointments & assists with recreational activities)
  • Applies safety & infection control measures
  • Provides assistance (i.e., work direction, orientation & training) to Hospital Aides (e.g., dressing, bathing, feeding)
  • Attends various meetings (e.g., Interdisciplinary Team Meetings, staff conferences, nursing meetings & in-services)
  • Performs any additional resident &/or job-related duties as assigned
