Nurse Job Position Description

Employees in this classification are experienced LVN’s responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned specialty or subspecialty outpatient clinic. Work is performed under the direction of a staff nurse and/or physician as part of a total health care team in providing complete evaluations to patients. Works under the direct supervision of staff nurse or physician. No delegated supervisory authority; may instruct co-workers and supervise them in the performance of proper procedures. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions, necessitating a high degree of contact with patients, families and hospital personnel
Major/Essential Functions

Supports patient care to pediatric patients and some adult patients. Assesses patient status, records information into the medical record, coordinates care with physician/provider, educations patient/family on medical directions, and coordinates follow-up care. Supports other providers as needed to ensure proper patient flow.
Occasional Duties

Coordinates with providers or physicians from other clinics as required. Receives patient calls and interfaces with providers on the appropriate disposition of patient needs.

Senior Licensed Vocational Nurse Qualifications

Completion of recognized program of professional nursing, current license in the State of Texas. Additional course work either in nursing or related area preferred. Two years of LVN experience in a specific segment of a hospital or clinic environment. Familiarity with special procedures utilized in assigned area of work, i.e., chemotherapy administration, laser treatments, etc. Ability to use basic equipment, i.e., thermometer, blood pressure cuff, scales, stethoscope, as well as more sophisticated equipment utilized within the assigned department; knowledge of blood drawing techniques; knowledge of and ability to perform CPR; ability to follow directions; ability to observe pertinent details; ability to communicate effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual English/Spanish plus. Capable of completing medical documentation in electronic medical records.
