Capital Health: School of Nursing Instructor – Pennington, NJ

Through a unique collaboration between Capital Health and the W. Cary Edwards School of Nursing at Thomas Edison State University, a per diem Clinical nursing educator is needed to teach students in the clinical setting.

Clinical Per Diem position is available at Capital Health for the Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN Program with Thomas Edison State University.

MSN and two-year clinical experience teaching at the BSN level is required; Doctorate preferred. Two 10 hour clinical days over 12 weeks (per semester) are conducted at Capital Health facilities, and Capital Health is the employer.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in nursing.
  • Three years progressive experience in clinical nursing specialty and nursing education.
  • MS Office, e-mail, internet research, web-based learning systems, and clinical computer applications.
  • Possesses excellent organizational, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and ability to respond quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid NJ RN license.

Responsibilities:

  • Implements a variety of teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs, desired student outcomes, content, and context. Bases are teaching strategies on educational theory and evidence-based teaching practices. Uses information technologies to support the teaching-learning process.
  • Develops collegial working relationships with students, faculty colleagues, and communities of interest to promote positive learning environments.
  • Exercises discretion and judgment to identify individual learning styles and unique learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds. Assists learners to develop the ability to engage in thoughtful and constructive self-assessment.
  • Engages in effective advisement and counseling strategies that support students in meeting their professional goals. Creates learning environments that are focused on socialization to the role of the nurse.
  • Participates in test construction and analysis. Provides and constructive feedback to learners.
  • Uses assessment and evaluation data to enhance the teaching and learning process. Participates in the systematic program process of the assessment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of curriculum development including identifying program outcomes, developing competency statements, writing learning outcomes, and selecting appropriate learning activities and assessment strategies. Analyzes the curriculum based off an evaluation of program outcomes, learner needs, and societal and health care trends before and during program evaluation meetings.
  • Maintains community and clinical partnerships that support educational goals of the school.
    Participates in committees and activities of the school and Capital Health. Participates in recruitment activities for the school and the nursing profession. Participates in professional and community organizations.
  • Serves as a role model and resource for students and nursing personnel on an ongoing basis. Functions as an active team member to achieve identified program goals.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities that increase one’s effectiveness in the faculty role.
  • Mentors and supports faculty colleagues and associates in the Nursing Connection-Mentor Program. Uses feedback gained from peer, student, and administrative evaluation to improve effectiveness.
  • Participates in the scholarship of nursing according to Boyer (1990); discovery, teaching, application, and integration. Completes an annual educational profile in agreement with established policy.
