Accountant Job Description:

This position reports to the Senior International/Tax Financial Analyst and is responsible for providing financial and administrative support (such as gathering and in the loading of financial and budget data) in the management of SEI International Operations such as SEI-Europe and the Research, Technology, and System Solutions (RTSS) Program. The duties include: advise and assist with budgets and financial planning; develop, formulate, and maintain financial summary, trends, and variance reports; collect, organize, and in-load budget data; perform budget and forecast analysis; handle monthly account reconciliation; determine accounting errors and process and track payroll redistributions and journal entries; review accounts for sufficient funding for purchase and travel requests; assist in the development and improvement of financial reporting processes and with Quarterly Financial Reviews, Internal Reviews, and Project Management Reviews. This position also supports the preparation of all necessary information required for the filing of various international and domestic tax returns. This post will assist the Senior International/Tax Financial Analyst in the gathering of data and the preparation of reports for SEI and CMU management regarding the SEI’s international business activities. This position will also assist in the collection of financial and physical presence data by city and country to be used in the preparation of international and domestic tax returns. This position will be responsible for assisting the Senior International/Tax Financial Analyst with the maintenance of Excel databases that support the SEI’s international business activities and its international/domestic tax filing requirements. Also, this position supports the collection, interpretation, and production of the monthly financial graphs to support the SEI’s Project Management initiative.

Accountant Minimum Requirements

The qualified candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent combination of training and experience; familiarity with databases (i.e. Oracle or Hyperion), word processing packages (i.e. Microsoft Word), and spreadsheets (i.e. Microsoft Excel); the qualified candidate must have minimum two years experience working on a budget or financial planning office (preferably in a fast-paced technical environment that includes interactions with internal and external customers) and working knowledge of financial reporting methods, resources, and financial practices and procedures; the candidate should also have a skilled, in-depth usage of spreadsheets (Excel), databases and word processing packages; the qualified candidate must be able to maintain and understand complex spreadsheets and accept responsibilities for accuracy; the qualified candidate must also have the ability to pay close attention to detail plus strong analytical skills;

the qualified candidate must be able to: work closely with all levels of personnel including senior management inside and outside the SEI; ability to enhance communication flow regarding financial matters through the Institute; excellent verbal and written communication skills; work independently and on teams; willingly take on new tasks and assume responsibility; the qualified candidate must also be skilled in: maintaining interpersonal relationships and communication; have strong organizational, analytical, reasoning, and problem solving skills; prioritizing work and handling multiple tasks simultaneously; use of databases, spreadsheets (i.e Microsoft Excel), and word processing packages; the candidate must be able to work in a normal sedentary position with some mobility (e.g. accessing internal SEI offices);

the candidate must be able to work in a normal office setting in close contact with a CRT; the qualified candidate must have the ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions, while maintaining the capacity to focus on detail and produce high-quality accurate information; the candidate must be able to work outside of normal business hours due to workload fluctuation;

Accountant Preferred Requirements

The preferred candidate will have: Master’s degree or combination of training and experience; expertise with databases (Oracle, Hyperion), word processing packages, and spreadsheets (i.e. Microsoft Excel); working knowledge of SEI financial reporting methods, budgeting, and financial practices and procedures; familiarity with CMU financial accounting policies and procedures; the preferred candidate should have experience and understanding of Carnegie Mellon and SEI financial policies and practices; Oracle and/or Hyperion Planning tools.
